How to Use Packaging to Market Your Brand

Packaging that Builds Consumer Relationships

First impressions count but don't forget about the un-boxing experience. Packaging can make or break how successful your product is.

1. Get Creative

Think about how your packaging can be re-purposed after it's served its initial purpose. Maybe it features a game on the bottom like the back of a cereal box. Or it includes a takeaway collection card. Having an additional feature is an easy way to create a memorable experience with your customer.

2. Include the Essentials

Customers shouldn't have to fumble around for important information regarding the product inside. Ingredients, Nutrition Facts, Quantity, Instructions. These are a couple of things that should be clear and easy to find on your packaging. Understanding your customer's needs aids in better package design.

3. Be Aggressive

How will your packaging differ from the box next to it on the shelf? Your packaging should stand out amongst competitors. This doesn't necessarily mean your packaging needs to be the biggest and brightest. Good design speaks for itself.

4. Show Off

Your brand should be clear and concise. The customer should know which company they're buying from. You want your brand to have visibility even after the product is used. Don't forget to add your social media handles!

5. Un-Boxing

Your package made its way into a customer's cart. They get home, rip it open, and then... they have to sift their way through mounds of filler only to find the tiny product hidden in the bottom of a giant box. This experience not only provides a negative memory of your product but also your brand. Un-boxing plays a major role in your company's narrative. A good experience makes the possibility of your customer returning much greater.

6. What Comes Next?

What happens when your customer is finished with your package? Do they throw it in the trash? Is it recycled? Can it be re-used? Being eco-friendly allows your customer to feel good about purchasing your product. It also gives them a better reason to share their experience.
